WOOHOO! Feeling good now. Managed to take off 5 lbs this week by eating right and controlling my portion size! Now to start adding exercise to the mix to help get some more off! Either way, I have already lowered my BMI by .5 pts. I am REALLY working to get it below 30 which is considered obese for my height. This would be 191 lbs. But let's make it to 200 first and then we can work toward 191. If I can get down to 200 lbs. I will be at 31.5 BMI which is still pretty good, but also still considered obese.
Ironically, to be considered "normal" according to BMI, I would have to get below 160 lbs. And I have been there ONCE in my life and people used to always tell me I needed to eat and I looked too skinny. Funny, huh? That would be almost half of my size now.....93 lbs or so lost. Wow. But I do have a friend who has lost over 100lbs so it can be done!
But for now, we are just going to focus on this week! Gonna go get on the elliptical RIGHT NOW in fact! YAY FOR BEING HEALTHY!

Ugh....
I am SO full right now. So very, VERY full. Just had whole wheat spaghetti with ground turkey and a homemade spaghetti sauce containing zucchini, yellow squash, onion, green pepper, and jalapenos! It was VERY good but now I am VERY full. And sleepy.
My husband and I are about to watch the movie Friends with Benefits. Have heard that its good for a few laughs. Maybe then I can burn a few calories while watching! HA!
Tomorrow is the BIG DAY! Weigh-in. Kind of feels like Christmas, ya know. Like tomorrow I'm going to wake up and find out that some old man in a red suit has squeezed down my chimney and stolen a few inches from my waist. But that is still to be determined. I've been eating a lot healthier but not necessarily less than I used to. Granted I won't finish a whole tube of Pringles on the way home from work now, but I still get quite a lot of food when you look at this plan I'm on. My husband, who is also on his own "diet" of sorts, is just as anxious as I am to see if I will lose any weight tomorrow. He looks at the portions I am eating with jealous eyes every night claiming that he doesn't think it is going to work. I keep trying to explain that a cup of spinach does not equal a steak even if they are the same size. So I could eat 15 cups of spinach before even beginning to touch a steak in calories! We will just let the scale do the talking tomorrow.
I only wish I had thought to take waist measurements before starting this. Guess I can start that tomorrow also. I think that is where I would like to see my biggest loss. That is where my fat goes to roost I guess you could say.
Movie is starting. Would love to stay and chat but need to go have a few laughs at the expense of Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. Catch you on the flipside!

So much food...so little time....
So the eating plan has been working out great so far. The enchiladas turned into tacos the other night because I had SO much food to eat I couldn't roll it up! They were whole wheat tortillas with 6 oz of chicken, 1/2 cup of black beans, 1/2 cup of corn, 1/2 cup of spinach, and some homemade salsa. DELICIOUS!
Today, I just polished off some spicy baked salmon with a dill lemon remoulade (made with ff sour cream of course!) and sauteed spinach. It was very tasty indeed. I'm just gonna miss being able to cook like this for lunch during the school week once I go back on Monday. But that's ok because I made an AWESOME salad for lunch yesterday. It would be something easy to prepare to take to school. Two cups of chopped raw spinach, 1/2 cup of black beans, 1/2 cup of corn, 3 oz of baked chicken, and then topped it off with homemade salsa! It was a great use of leftovers from the enchilada/taco meal! (This always makes me happy because I can't stand wasting food--which is probably why I'm in the position I'm in currently.)
Unfortunately, I did cheat this week. I got on the SCALE! I know, I know...I said I was gonna wait until Saturday so I didn't get discouraged....and now I will. The scale was NOT nice to me. Not that I've been doing something wrong, just the weight is "falling off" a lot slower than I had hoped. And in the back of my mind I knew that would happen. So it's ok....eh, I guess. Either way, I am still plugging away at this eating right thing, and I have been feeling better lately!
In fantasy land, I'm just imagining that when I get on the scale Saturday AM it will tell me that I've lost 30 lbs this week. WOULDN'T THAT BE AWESOME! But if it were that easy I would just do this once a month and eat cake for the rest of the month. MMM....cake!

Boo for the Holidays, Yay for Renewed Motivation!
I love the holidays. I love the lights. I love the festivies. I love the food.....especially the three cheese macaroni and cheese, the potatoes and green beans that have been steeping in ham juice all day.....the amazing desserts. Nothing says holidays like adding 15 or so lbs to your rear sector. And this holiday was like all the others. I overindulged and underexercised. I lazed around. And I LOVED it.
But then I realized something. If I did the same thing every year for four years, I would be close to 60 lbs heavier than I am right now! SIXTY POUNDS! That's TWO of my daughter! And that just ain't happenin'.
So I resolved to restart a program that I did when I was in graduate school before I became pregnant with my daughter. I lost about 18lbs in 8 weeks and felt AMAZING. Why did I get away from it? Oh yeah, because I was told to eat more when I was pregnant and that full fat was better and then I lost control and never went back. So, yesterday (before the start of the new year....I mean, why wait) I decided to restart this program. It focuses on a balanaced diet with reduced calories and exercise. I like it because it is a true outline and there are no gray areas where I can "cheat".
Here's how it works:
I am allowed a certain number of fats, meats, dairy, grains, fruits, and vegetables a day. And I HAVE to eat those required amounts. This is great because it cuts down on the fatty, snacky food, but I am still full from the amount of fruits and vegetables I get. On the 1200 calorie plan (which I was on before) I was allowed 3 fats, 3 meats, 2 dairy, 3.5 grains, 3 fruits, and 4 vegetables. This is actually a lot when you consider portions allowed.
Now for the fats, of course the portion sizes are tiny. 1 tsp of mayonnaise or 8 olives or 2 tbsp of lowfat/fat free dressing are what I usually look at. A 3oz portion of meat counts as one serving. A 1 oz block of cheese (my greatest sacrifice) or 1 cup of lowfat yogurt count as a dairy serving. One half cup of Kashi cereal, a whole wheat tortilla, 1/2 cup of whole wheat pasta, or 2 slices of whole wheat 50 calorie bread counts as a grain serving. For fruits, one medium of just about anything is a serving. And for veggies, 1 cup raw or 1/2 cup cooked veggies count as a serving. So really when you look at it. You're still getting quite a bit of food.
Let's look at what I had yesterday to see how it all plays out:
Now you are supposed to plan out the whole day/week beforehand but I did not do that yesterday. Therefore when I got to dinner, I still had a TON of food to eat! 6 oz of chicken, potatoes, green beans, cottage cheese, and a banana! Today will be better in the planning!
I am not going to weigh myself until Saturday. I do not want to get discouraged part way through the week so I think it is just better to wait. Today is looking awesome though....sitting here with a bowl of yogurt and kashi and a banana. I have great plans for an awesome salad for lunch. And then tonight: CHICKEN ENCHILADAS! (Made the new way, of course!) I'll let you know how those taste next time!
